Daniel Knauss

  Daniel Oliver Knauss, age 70, passed away May 24, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo.  Daniel was born December 29, 1945, a son to the late Drs. Austin Roland Knauss and Nellie Mae (Thompson) Knauss of Lebanon, MO.   In 1967, Daniel was united in marriage to his high school sweet heart, Margaret Van Stavern.  They celebrated 44 years of marriage before Margaret's death in 2011. Daniel graduated from Lebanon High School, earned his Bachelor's Degree from William Jewell and his Masters  from Drury University.  During his career Daniel managed warehouses for Venture stores, worked in social services and taught sciences in high schools in the St. Louis and central Missouri areas. Daniel was a dedicated teacher, avid reader, and loved working in the outdoors around his home place. Daniel was active in Masonic Lodge #83 in Lebanon. He served as Master in 2014/15. He also enjoyed visits with family and with friends at Cardiac Rehab in Lebanon as well as other new and lifelong friends. Daniel is survived by a brother, David Knauss and wife Bonnie of Kearney, MO;  a sister, Mary Kay Knight and husband, Roger of Lebanon;  a sister, Karen Ann Bunch and husband, Randall of Eldon, MO; as well as nieces and nephews, Jonathan Knauss (Karen), Mary Lynne Gallimore (Erik), Joseph Knight (and special friend Mary), Heather Daly (Robert), Andrew Knight (Amanda), Jeremy Bunch , Timothy Chamberlain- Bunch (Vernon) and eleven great nieces and nephews as well as a special friend, Pat McElfresh, many friends at Cardiac Rehab in Lebanon and other friends and relatives.    In addition to his beloved wife, Margaret, Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dr. Michael  A. Knauss. The family suggests contributions to your favorite charity in remembrance of Daniel Knauss. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, June 2, 6:00 pm at the Masonic Lodge in Lebanon.
