Drusha Lynn Mayhue, aged 73, passed away on September 29, 2024, in Rolla, Missouri. Born on November 11, 1950, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Drusha dedicated much of her life to the great outdoors and environmental conservation. A passionate backpacker, Drusha co-chaired the Sierra Club in Houston, Texas. Her leadership extended to numerous backpacking expeditions, including a memorable trip along the Chilkoot Trail in Alaska, which commemorated the Klondike Gold Rush. Her commitment to nature and adventure left a lasting impact on all who joined her on these journeys. She also loved running marathons. Drusha did run the Boston Marathon, the San Antonio Marathon, and the Bay to Breakers 10 K in San Francisco.
Drusha was predeceased by her parents, Doty Lee and Frank Mayhue, a survivor of the Bataan Death March in WWII, and her cousin Mark Hilterbran. She is survived by her sister, Dorinda Mayhue, brother-in-law Robert Schafer, and her paternal cousins, Peggy Rupp & her husband Don, Anne Dixon & husband Jim, Nora McCaleb and husband Phil, maternal cousins, Steve Hilterbran and wife Phyllis, Sandra Lewis, Karen Madden, James Madden, Dan Thomas, Kim Thomas, Brett Thomas, and Randy Thomas, who will cherish her memory, along with her many friends and fellow adventurers.
She especially touched the lives of her close friends Annette Beck, Gayle Nesom, Carol Alexander, Charlie Pinkava, Marian Dowdy, and Margaret Stine. Drusha enjoyed attending her 50th High School reunion in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2019, where she reconnected with many fellow students and friends. She also gave her beloved rescue cat a forever home, and Josie will continue to be cared for by family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Drusha's memory can be made to the Sierra Club, supporting the cause she was so deeply passionate about. Take pictures and leave footprints behind.
