Harry Joseph (Joe) Green of Edgar Springs, Missouri passed away peacefully at his home May 03, 2026.
Joe was born in Bremerhaven Germany November 23, 1948
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Harry and Annie (Smith) Green, brother John Smith of Colorado, sisters Margaret Warren of Rolla, MO and Genevieve Hilburn of Texas.
He is survived by his wife Margie Antal-Green, daughter JeanAnn (Rusty) Richards of Lee Summit, MO, 2 grandsons Ethan and Landon Howard of Missouri, and "granddaughter" Shay Pelfrey of Devil's Elbow, MO. Sister: Mary Ann Hance of Springfield, MO Brothers: Michael Green of St. Louis, MO, Steven Green of Rolla, MO, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joe entered the Military in 1966. He was a combat Veteran and served 5 tours in Vietnam.
He was trained in Avionics repair (helicopters) at Ft. Gordon, GA. Transferred to Ft. Bragg assigned to the 201 Aviation Group. After the TET offense of 1968 he would go out with Special Forces Group A 502 at Camp Trang Dung. Airfield Nha Trang 1967-69.
He re-enlisted 1970 in ASA, trainged to work on Crypto. However, he was sent to Vietnam assigned to the 3rd Aviation Combat Assault Group (Chickenman Joe) 2271st Cav Division Based at Camp Holloway by Pleiku. During the day Joe was a door gunner, flew as Crew Chief and oversaw flight line maintenance during the evening. After being Medevacked out of Vietnam, he was assigned to Troop D 1st squadron 10th Cav based at Ft. Carson, Colorado till 1972.
Upon leaving the Military Joe worked as a mechanic in Crested Butte, CO Resort, Berg-Mechanics and Samsonite in Denver, CO.
He was also employed by Bell Helicopter as Avionics Instructor for the Shaw of Iran, until the revolution.
He was involved with the Edgar Springs Rural Fire Department with communications and served as President of the Board. Joe also participated in several groups for Vietnam Veterans.
A memorial service will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Waynesville, MO at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Margie is asking you to plant a tree in his memory and honor.
