Judy Kay Riggs

Judy Kay Riggs, 74, of Dent County passed away on Friday August 14, 2026, at her home. She was born July 11, 1952, in Newburg to Luke Bunton and Roberta Curtis. On October 15, 1992, she was married to Steven Ray Riggs in Rolla.

Judy worked for many years at the St. James Veterans Home as a medical technician. Judy was a deeply creative and loving woman whose hands and heart were always busy making something meaningful. She took great pride in her Cherokee heritage, and that pride showed through her basket weaving, soap making, crafts, and the many things she created with care. Music was also part of her spirit. Judy was a songwriter, and several of her songs were published and recorded by her mother, Missy Curtis, through BMI.

Above all, Judy loved her family with her whole heart. She shared a beautiful life with her husband, Steve Riggs, whom she married on October 15, 1992, in Rolla, Missouri. For nearly 34 years, they walked through life side by side, sharing love, companionship, memories, laughter, and the kind of bond that becomes part of who you are. Steve was not only her husband, but her partner, her constant, and a deeply cherished part of her life.

Judy was proud of her children and loved her family fiercely. Her presence, creativity, strength, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but the memories she created and the love she gave will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

She is survived by her husband Steve; children Melissa Stark, Bud Dumbach, and Bobby Baker; grandchildren Paige, Nichole, Kamryn, Abby, Andrew, and Brittany; great granddaughter Willow; siblings Kenny Bunton of Rolla, Vickie Yelton of Sedalia, Menda Gilbert of Lake of the Ozarks; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Richard Bunton, Billy Bunton, Kathy Bunton, and Donnie Bunton.
