Raymond Loyd Light

  Raymond Loyd Light, of Rolla, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the age of 87. He was born in Phelps County, MO on June 2, 1930 to the late Edward L. and Anna M. (Bassett) Light. Besides his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brothers Ralph, Marvin, Wayne ‘Jake', Thomas, and Charles Light, and by his sisters Cordelia Grayson and Dorothy Neely.   On September 14, 1956 he married Edith Irene Byrd, and they were later blessed with two children. Raymond retired from the University of Missouri-Rolla. He enjoyed cooking, working in his yard, teaching his grandchildren to hit a baseball and throw a Frisbee, and listening to music, especially Saturday Morning Bluegrass on KTTR. He also made sure the knives of his family and friends were always razor sharp. He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife of 61 years, Edith Light, of their home in Rolla; two children, Linda Wells of Edgar Springs, MO and Kenneth and wife Laura (Gillett) Light of Rolla; one brother, Elmer Light of La Mesa, CA; eight grandchildren, Wayne Wells and wife Kami, Tim Wells and wife Katie, and Andrew Wells, Jenna Light, Clarissa (Light) Nisbett and husband John, Rebecca Light, Meredith Light, and Matthew Light, and; three great grandchildren, Victoria Wells, Violet Wells, and Gypsy Wells; nieces and nephews; other extended family members and dear friends. A memorial service celebrating the life of Raymond Light will be held at 11 am Friday, December 22, 2017 at the Central Community Church of God in Rolla.
