Sandra "Sandy" Louise Karr

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Sandra “Sandy” Louise Karr, 71, of Rolla on September 4, 2025. Known for her infectious personality, warm spirit, and boundless love, Sandy brought light and laughter to everyone lucky enough to know her.

Before her retirement from Phelps County Bank, Sandy served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Retail where she held many roles. Sandy worked her way up from a part-time teller within the banking industry, something that has been an inspiration to others. Titles never defined her—what mattered most was how you treated others. Her team lovingly called her their “mother hen.”

Sandy had also served as a board member for CASA and the Heart of America ESOP Association, mentoring children, and supporting various other community organizations.

Sandy lived with a zest for life. She found joy in the simple things—a trip to a winery, quiet moments at the river, or buggy rides alongside the love of her life and husband of 52 years, David.

Above all, Sandy was a fiercely loving mother to her two daughters. She was their rock, their protector, and their “Momma Bear.” Her love for them was limitless and helped shaped them into the strong women they are today. She was also the best grandma, a guiding light and constant presence in her grandson’s life. Their bond was unbreakable, and she played an important role in shaping his world with love, wisdom, and unwavering support.

Sandy leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unforgettable memories.

She is survived by her husband, David; her daughters, Wendy and “favorite oldest son-in-law” Tim Riggs and Amy and her “favorite youngest son-in-law” James Barnes; her grandson, Mason Parks; Michael (Julie) Riggs and great-grandson Maddoc Riggs; her sister, Susan Karr; her brothers, John Conley, and Charles (Mandy) Conley; as well as a large circle of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Donna Conley, and her brother, David.

A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at a later date.

In Sandy’s own words: “hooty hoo, baby!”
