Sara B. Werner, age 93 of Rolla, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at her home.
Sara was born October 9, 1926, in Salem, a daughter to the late Ross Rudell and Hildred (Greene) Belew.
Sara was a 1944 graduate of Salem High School. She went on and attended Purdue University on an accelerated program in drafting. For the remainder of World War II, she worked for Curtis Wright Aircraft, drafting engineering design and modifications on the P40 Warhawk.
After the war, she moved to Rolla and worked for the U.S. Geological Service as a cartographer until she was married and began raising her three sons.
She later attended UMR and graduated with a degree in Psychology. She was employed at the Division of Family Services as a social worker until her retirement.
After retirement, she continued to work part-time as a case worker and volunteered as a tutor with local elementary schools.
Sara enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, drawing, painting, traveling and spending time with her family.
Sara is survived by her sons James Werner and his wife Jeannie and son Stephen Werner all of Rolla; three grandchildren, Christopher, James and Helen; one great grandson, Aidan as well as nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by one son, Robert B. Werner and her brothers, Robert, Leland and James.
Sara will be laid to rest in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem
