Richard Lee Gidcumb, age 84 of Salem, MO passed away September 25, 2019 in his home after a long battle with COPD.

Richard was born on June 29, 1935 in Harrisburg, IL.  He was the son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Curtis) Gidcumb.

Richard attended school at Harrisburg High School, was honorably discharged from the US Marines and graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy.

On March 24, 1961 was united in marriage to Lee Catherine Fischer in Elgin, IL. 

Richard was a member of New Harmony Church of Salem, MO.  He enjoyed life to the fullest.  Some of the activities included all kinds of board games with the family.  He had a passion for hunting bottles and arrow heads.  He was an avid golfer but he had a creative side as a well as he made furniture and wind chimes and the list goes on.

Survivors included: Wife Lee Gidcumb of Salem, MO., Son David Gidcumb and wife Catherine of Salem, MO., Son Roger Gidcumb and wife Tracey of McLeansboro, IL., Doughter-in-Law Carol Bough of Wheeler, IL., Grandson Joshua and wife Michelle Gidcumb of Salem, MO., Granddaughter Erin and Husband Noah Rienks of Rolla, MO., Grandson Caleb and wife Marisha Gidcumb of Salem, MO., Grandson Zack Gidcumb and Sydney of McLeansboro, IL., Grandson Zeb Gidcumb of McLeansboro, IL., Grand Daughter Kelley and husband Ben Mowrer of Mt. Vernon, IL.,  Great Grandchildren: Aiden, Jackson, Isaiah, Alexa, Wyatt, Zayden, Hayden, Haddie, Zaylin, Ella, Jude, Anson, Samual and One Sister, Dianna Reese of Harrisburg, IL.

Preceded in Death: Parents Joseph and Ruth Gidcumb, Brothers: Doug, Winston, Cliff Gidcumb, One Son Gary Gidcumb

Services will be held on October 3rd with visitation from 11:00 to 1:00: w/Memorial service following. Location at New Harmony Church is Salem, MO.

Service will be held on October 4th with visitation from 11:00 to 1:00: with Memorial service following. Location at Blooming Grove Baptist Church in McLeansboro, IL.

In Lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
